2013 Philly Bike Race Canceled

The race, best known for its climb up the Manayunk wall, will return in 2014.

The Philadelphia International Cycling Championship, a major event for Manayunk and surrounding communities, is cancelled for 2013, according to NBC10.

Race organizers announced they are skipping the 2013 race to reorganize with new partners for a bigger race in 2014. This is the first time in 28 years that event, which brings out thousands of spectators, has been canceled.

The race, best known for the half-mile climb un the Manayunk wall, has been thought to contribute to the economic revival of the Manayunk community, according to event organizers.

"We are disappointed that we must remove the race from the calendar in 2013, but we feel that we will be able to reorganize with new partners and make this the preeminent event the region deserves in 2014 and beyond," David Chauner, former Olympic cyclist and an event creator said in a statement.

"We are disappointed that we must remove the race from the calendar in 2013, but we feel that we will be able to reorganize with new partners and make this the preeminent event the region deserves in 2014 and beyond," said David Chauner, a former Olympic cyclist and one of the creators of the event. "The race is more than just about cycling; it reflects the spirit and passion of our region through all that have been involved and we are very excited that this adjustment in the calendar will make it even bigger than ever before and sustainable for years to come." ...

So, what is the story behind the story. Why do "they" feel that "we" .. "must remove the race from the calendar in 2013"? If the "event" isn't about cyclists and all those human factors and experiences that go into cycling, then what it is it about?
