Accident Closes Lewis Road at Rush Hour

A two-car crash occurred around 5pm.

A crash snarled traffic in all directions around a large stretch of Lewis Road on Thursday evening.

According to Limerick Township police officer Shawn Pancoast, one car, driven by a female driver, was traveling north on Lewis Road when a second car tried to turn left into the post office from the southbound lane and the cars collided.

The male driver of the second car had to be extricated from the vehicle. Both cars sustained heavy front-end damage.

Limerick Township police sergeant Brian Skelton said that the driver turning left is generally at fault unless speed is a factor, and speed was not a factor in this accident. It is possible either or both drivers could be cited if the investigation warrants it.

Pancoast said both drivers complained of pain and were transported to hospitals, one to Pottstown and one to Phoenixville. Neither driver was seriously injured. The female driver is pregnant, although Pancoast was not sure how far along she is, and was also suffering from some confusion following the collision.

"She doesn't remember the accident, so there could be [an injury] there," Pancoast said.

A stretch of Lewis Road from 10th Avenue to Country Club Road was closed after the accident and remained closed as of 6pm for investigation and cleanup.

I had just finished running across the street when that accident happened. It could have been me walking. The way and speed that these people drive is unbelievable. There is so much aggression out there. I take my life in my hands just because I want to walk and it is not right. They don't care about anyone but themselves. SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION!

Some people are better at walking then reading, and sould pay attention to where cross walks are.

Some people are better at talking on cell phones and texting then driving. There was a crosswalk where I was. No one should pull out in front of anyone unless the road is clear. It is our responsibility as drivers, though, to be concentrating on driving and nothing else. There are too many people getting hit by cars while walking. Everyone should pay attention to the road more.
