Andy Reid Hired as Kansas City Chiefs Coach
Former Philadelphia Eagles coach gets new gig in Kansas City.
Well, that didn't take long.
Less than a week after being dismissed as coach of the Philadelpha Eagles, Andy Reid has landed his next gig as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to numerous sports websites, Reid was flying to Kansas City to accept the job.
Reid's lawyers were ironing out details of the contract, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Kansas City Star was also reporting that the deal was done.
Reid was fired Monday by Birds owner Jeff Lurie following a 4-12 season and ending a 14-year tenure.
Reid suffered through a dismal season and also on a personal end this year. His son Garrett died of a heroin overdose during training camp.
Reid is the winningest coach in Philadelphia Eagles history, having led the team to six NFC East titles, four NFC Championship game appearances and one visit to the Super Bowl.
His 140 victories are a franchise record and rank 22nd on the all-time NFL coaching list.

Poor KC, now the time is their's. So sad they hired this pathetic excuse for a head football coach. The man will ALWAYS be in second place. Loser !!

Your selling the guy short......Reid had a good run in Philly and his only negative was not winning a Superbowl but how many coaches that have coached in the NFL ever get to win a Superbowl !

Yeah ... Because everyone knows the last thing the Chiefs need is a football coach capable - and proven - of being able to get a weak team in a Conference Championship in just three seasons!

How about if we give Andy Reid a chance? he is no longer in Philly...why would you attack him? I wish he and his family a wonderful new adventure and all the best.

Kc has the first pick in the draft. It will not take long before they find out they made a poor choice. Both in the coach and his pick. I have ten dollars he trades it away. He will have an excellant reason. If you put salt and pepper on it you'll be able to swallow it. I only hope they gave him a three year deal.

Yep, because Reid completely screwed up that top pick in '99, when everyone and their grandmother wanted him to draft Ricky Williams.

Still stand by Ricky Williams would have been a better choice than McNabb

Yeah ... That's why the Saints traded WIlliams after just two years and a year or two after that WIlliams was out of football for a significant stretch.
Please ...

Absolutely, if the NFL hadn't given him a hard time about smoking pot and just let him do it he would have been one of the best of all time.

Williams was also diagnosed with depression and a social anxiety disorder. Not exactly team-building material ...

He can be depressed all he wants if he is running 1800+ yards and 16 touchdowns a season pre the NFL nonsense with the pot. But what did we get...a choke artist who had unbelievable stats because they were padded when it didn't matter. The fact of it is McNabb couldn't play in the clutch. For years I watched this guy throwing at receiver's feet and then come off the field smiling and laughing after blowing it. That is super inspiring.
"Hey you guys see how I just threw that ball 10 feet short of the receiver? AWESOME RIGHT?? Let's have some chunky soup." - D. McNabb

He met with Paoli and owner for 9 hrs. then said he wanted his buddy as GM or no deal. What a RAT......wish you what you wished the Eagles and Philly.....NOTHING I hope the Pats. rehire Paoli as they don't have a GM.....You are burnt out "fatty"

The only thing Andy Reid has proven is he can't win at this level......or coach, or time manage, or call plays, or draft players, or answer reasonable questions from the media and anything else a HEAD coach is supposed to do in the pro game. He will always just be a good assistant coach. Did anybody ever hear about the Peter principal ?

You can always tell the hair-on-fire dolts who wouldn't recognize a great football coach if they tripped over one.
Yes, Reid had his weaknesses ... like clock management, stubbornness and a perhaps a bit of hubris. But you don't take a team from the outhouse to the NFC Championship in 3 seasons out of sheer luck, and get them there three more times.
Could he have been better? Of course ... But too few "football fans", especially those old enough to remember what Eagles football was like in the late '60s, early '70s and throughout the entire decade of the '90s, would ever call Andy Reid a poor coach.
* Regular season record 129-89-1 (only 10-9 in playoff games)
* NFC East Division Champion 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010
* NFC Championship 2004 (Conference appearances 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008)
* Coach of the Year 2000, 2002 (Maxwell, Sporting News, Associated Press)
Certainly, it was time for the Eagles to go in another direction; but Reid will - most likely - be successful in Kansas City.
Good luck, Big Red! I know I'll be checking to see how well he does in KC, and hoping the Eagles get nearly as lucky as they did in '99 when they hired him.

There is no doubt that Reid is a good coach. He is just not a great head coach. One of his biggest weaknesses beside clock mamagement is not willing to change anything when there were problems. Lets face facts what kept the Eagles in contention was Johnson and his defense. With McNabb we never had a stellar offense. every team knew passing was out. hell even Jerry Rice said ---No great receiver would play with McNabb because he always placed a receiver in career ending positions.hell if you could catch with your fee we may have had something. Andy has great stats and if you are the type that loves what looks good on paper ,well then he is your man. I will admire Andy for somethings and dislike him for others but you have to admit - HE CAN"T WIN THE BIG ONE!

Andy Reid could have taken time off after the death of his Son, Garrett. However, the real problem is that Donavan McNabb, no longer played that well and hiring Michael Vick was his second mistake. I will be watching to see how things play out in KC.

It will be great to see him mismanage every two minute drill and run the ball every single effing time on third and long.

Nobody seems to mention that the Eagles may well have one of the biggest micromanaging owners in the NFL.

I wish Andy the best in Kanas City, he was a great coach for us. I need not make excuses, just look at the stats. I am so sorry he lost his son, He needed time to grieve but didn't take it. I hope you will be appreciated in KC!

As a lifelong Eagles fan, I remember some of the "other" coaches and owners whose records don't even come close to what we've gotten from Lurie + Reid. The last 10 years has been a pleasure to watch them. I apologize for the Eagles fans who can't even count. Thank you , Andy Reid and best wishes to you.

Vick, Juan Castillo as D-co, after hiring Washburn D-line coach,..letting Dawkins walk with no replacement,Out coached/lost as favorite in 4 out of 5 NFC championship games, same mistakes over and over, wasting time outs, no 2 minute offense, "got to do a better job", Red zone offense worst in nfl, constant penalties, worst turnover ratio in nfl by far, "My responsibility"..Worst collection of gutless players who are convinced they are great ever assembled. This garbage pile belongs to Andy Reid. Good Bye and thanks for leaving such a mess. You were right about 1 thing...

I gotta do a better job, week in and week out.Jimmy Johnson was the backbone of the eagles.when he passed so did the eagles. The win record belongs to Johnson not ( we gotta do abetter job ) Reid.
Kansas won't make the playoffs in the next three years.

My prediction: That candy-apple-red Chiefs apparel is going to be less than flattering on Andy.
