Bridge Closure On Schedule

As of this morning, the Royersford-Spring City bridge closure is on schedule, according to PennDOT.

A press release regarding the Royersford-Spring City Bridge closure was sent out this afternoon, updating residents, business owners and the media on the progress of the bridge closure.

As of 6:20 a.m., the bridge was closed today and will remain so for approximately eight weeks. Signs are posted at both ends of the bridge and the detour is marked through the area. Here is the release:

As previously announced, the Main Street bridge connecting Royersford and Spring City was closed on schedule this morning, and will remain closed for approximately eight weeks for bridge deck replacement.  The closure occurred at 6:20 a.m.  Signs are posted in both boroughs, saying “Bridge Closed – open to local traffic and all businesses.”  For through traffic, the posted detour follows Route 724 and Route 422.  We thank the community for their patience and understanding while PennDOT performs this necessary work to ensure the structural integrity and safety of the bridge.  When work is complete this fall, the bridge will no longer be structurally deficient.

Maybe if the pendot workers would actually work when there on the clock instead of three people do the work an 6+ stand an watch. It's ridiculous I live very close an have to witness this everytime there are people "working" I don't appreciate my hard earned tax money going to people standing around doing nothing an taking god knows how long of breaks from nothing my respect goes out to the people who actually do the work. If they all worked like there supposed to the bridge would have been fixes a long time ago now we all have to go way put of our way just to go around. I think they need to invest in some workers that actually would work an earn that money instead of causing all this stress for the community. Thankyou

PENNDOT doesn't do the work on the bridge, subcontractors are the ones that actually do the tearing and rebuilding

In reality if they are going to close the bridge for 8 weeks then why don't they keep it shut down longer and just replace the bridge like the High St bridge in Phoenixville. Then you don't have to worry about having to come back in a couple years and fix it again..

Thanks to everyone for participating in the discussion about the bridge. It certainly is a pain to make a routine trip from Limerick to Spring City. It took me about 25 minutes last night - normally it takes about eight.

Keep it coming everyone! Great discussion.

A thank you is owed to all the workers who are constructing a safer Spring City Bridge in 100+ degree heat, around the clock, 24 hours a day.
