County Commissioners Report Smooth Elections

Say high turnout, no glitches reported.

Democratic Montgomery County Commissioners Josh Shapiro, Leslie Richards, and their Republican colleague Bruce Castor said Tuesday afternoon that Election Day in the county is proceeding smoothly.

The commissioners were visiting a polling location at the Whitpain Township building, where they said that they had not received any reports of voting machines not working properly or other irregularities.

Castor said all indications were that voters at county polling places were "well behaved, [with] no partisanship, just waiting their turn."

Richards, who is also the chair of the county Election Board, said turnout was already over 30 percent "before lunch." Turnout is expected to exceed 60 percent.

"Everyone I've spoken to is happy to see the lines," Richards said.

"I'm feeling very confident about how efficiently this election has been run," Castor said. Castor, who lives in the Lederach section of Lower Salford Township, said more than 1,100 voters had cast ballots at his polling place by 10:15 a.m.

"There's high turnout and a lot of enthusiasm," Shapiro said. "It's now in [voters'] hands."

Could it be that the civility and enthusiasm filters down from the top?

Yeah I just encountered improper actions at my polling place at Quaker Friends Meeting House on Route 61l in Horsham.19044

They had a 5 X 7 inch flyer VOTER ID in bold type about the State Voter ID Requirements right in front of each person at the table where you signed in to vote. EVEN THOUGH THE LAW IS NOT IN EFFECT! A Judge suspended it! It looked like a Wanted Poster!

Having it there insinuated and gave the false impression that the law WAS still in effect and ID WAS required to vote.

I complained that it was voter intimidation to have the flyers at the sign in table since the law was not in effect and they got mad at me.

I called the Montgomery County Democratic Committee and they said they would have their lawyers call and tell them to remove the flyers.

Yep those flyers have been a hindrance all day. The people taking your names and signing you in are asking for ID and if you don't have it it's a problem.
