Street Race Leads to Drug Bust

A car stopped for racing on Ridge Pike contained illegal drugs.

Limerick Township police found a little more than they expected when they pulled over a beige Chevrolet Cavalier on Ridge Pike a couple of weeks ago.

Corporal Fitz Duffy was on Ridge Pike when he spotted two cars that appeared to be racing up West Ridge Pike at Sunset Road. Duffy pulled over both, and when he approached the Cavalier, he reported, there was a strong odor of marijuana.

The driver, 18-year-old Darian Leigh Holland, allegedly had three baggies of marijuana of different weights in her car, as well as cigar tubes (which are often used to roll marijuana for smoking, according to the report) and a lock box.

Police also reportedly observed green flakes consistent with marijuana leaves in multiple places in the car.

Holland refused to allow police to search the lock box unless a warrant was obtained. Police did so, and reported that they found a small scale and four more bags of marijuana.

According to the report, possession of those items can indicate that the suspect is selling the drugs.

Holland was charged with possessing a controlled substance.

Holland was also charged with possession of an alcoholic beverage by a minor beause police discovered a bottle of wine in the car. Neither Holland nor her passenger had alcohol in their systems at the time of Holland's arrest.

Holland was arraigned and released on her own recognizance pending a hearing.

Wow, what a brain surgeon. Not only drag racing in a Chevy Cavalier (I've seen bike riders go faster than a Cavalier) but to do so with drugs in the car. No sympathy at all for their stupidity and thankfully an innocent family doing holiday shopping was not hurt as a result of her stupidity.

Drag racing is done on a closed track under supervision of a sanctioning body like the NHRA. This is street racing and I wish the media would get it right along with the police. This gives real drag racing that happens at tracks like Maple Grove near Reading and other tracks across the country and the world a bad name.

JR, you have a very valid point. It was a mistake to refer to this as "drag racing." I have edited the article to reflect the correction.

Really dude? Most people know the difference between "drag racing" and street racing. The fact is 99% of us don't care about the NHRA or some redneck racing nonsense. Stop with the fake outrage already!

Hey, before you sound like a moron. Maybe you should know what you are talking about. The NHRA and NASCAR are 2 different forms of racing. The NHRA has been pushing for end of the police and the media calling illegal street racing drag racing. There are also a lot of NHRA fans in the area as well as one of the largest builders of NHRA race cars in S & W in Spring City. Maybe some you should actually look at all the engineering that goes into building a race car. In fact almost all the crew guys in the NHRA and NASCAR are highly educated with engineering degrees. Street racing is done by a bunch of thugs with no respect for the law or the people they may hurt. I was just pointing out that there is a difference in the 2 and that it needed to be corrected.
