Kane will be PA's First Elected Female Attorney General
Democrat Kathleen Kane beat Republican David Freed with the widest margin on the statewide ballot.
Scranton Native Kathleen Kane will serve as Pennsylvania's first elected female Attorney General, after former Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed.
Kane received just over 3 million votes to Freed's 2.2 - she won by just under 15 points.
"Tonight is a historic night," Kane said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We have expanded the boundaries for women in Pennsylvania.
Kane, who beat out Southeast Pennsylvania Democrat Patrick Murphy for the Democratic Party nomincation, gained a lot of name recognition in the Primary Election.
As the General Election neared, Kane attacked Freed on his connections to former Attorney Generals, Gov. Tom Corbett and Leroy Zimmerman, while Freed went after Kane's experience.
Corbett, who attended Freed's campaign event, did not understand why Kane focused on him during the campaign, according to the Inquirer.
"She's more than welcome to look at what we did," the governor said. "She's the one that turned the attorney general's race political."

Editor's Note: The story has been altered to reflect that Kathleen Kane will be Pennsylvania's first elected attorney general. Technically, Linda Kelly is serving as the state's first female attorney general, though she was not elected.

She better dig deep for this Corbett Investigation...
As Attorney General, Tom Corbett received over $647,000 in campaign contributions from members of the Second Mile Foundation, while only assigning one investigator to the case.
Meanwhile, at the same time, he assigned 14 investigators to Bill Deweese, who spent more than 5 years trying to get him.
It is difficult to believe these campaign contributions did not improperly influence his decision to not file charges against Jerry Sandusky.
The state police trooper who initially handled the Clinton County case against Jerry Sandusky believed there was enough evidence from a teenage boy -- now known as Victim One-- to charge Sandusky with indecent assault.

The opinion of one state trooper is worth approximately nothing compared to the judgement of the state police as a whole, the local police and the various social services offices that reviewed the case. The local investigators, unbelievably, cleared Sandusky. Unless someone can show that Corbett strong armed local law enforcement, the department of child welfare, et al., an investigation of Corbett isn't going anywhere. As bad as it looks that Corbett got such large donations from Second Mile, no court is going to rule against him for deferring to the judgement of every government agency who reviewed the case.
