Lewis Road Chimney Fire Yields No Damage

Traffic built up on Lewis Road for about 45 minutes on Wednesday afternoon.

Responders from Limerick Fire Company, Linfield Fire Company and Limerick Township Police Department were on scene of a chimney fire at 403 N. Lewis Rd. in Limerick on Wednesday afternoon. Initial reports of the fire were made at about 2:15 p.m.

The fire was started by a small wood stove and was called in by a passerby, although residents of the house were home at the time. There was no major damage reported.

Linfield Fire Company Chief Don Maleta warned residents of chimney fires.

"This is why it's stressed to clean out your chimney every year before the winter fire season," Maleta said.

Cleaning out the chimney prevents creosote build-up. That type of build-up can cause a compounding problem, and eventually a fire.

Traffic on Lewis was backed up for the duration of the cleanup. The road was fully opened again by 2:50 p.m. There were no major injuries or damage to report.
