Lewis Road Crash Victim Identified
The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office has joined the Limerick Police in the crash investigation.
Authorities have identified the victim in Monday afternoon's fatal crash on N. Lewis Road in Limerick Township as Merinda Thompson, 40. An autopsy on her body is scheduled for later Tuesday.
In a statement issued to local media, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman's office said that authorities are in possession of the cell phone belonging to the 18-year-old male driver of the green Ford Focus that struck Thompson as she jogged along the roadside. The driver had previously declined to provide the phone to police or to make a statement at the crash scene.
A sample of the driver's blood was also obtained for testing, the District Attorney's office said.
Authorities said their preliminary investigation found that the car was heading northbound on Lewis Road when it crossed into the southbound lane, then partially off the road, where it struck Thompson, who was jogging northbound on the southbound side.
The identity of the driver of the car has not been released by authorities. He was treated for minor injuries following the crash on Monday.

I drove by your house around noon today. I saw all of the police officers and cars. I was surprised and did not know why. You will always be remembered as a good mother and neighbor. Rest in peace. My sincere condolences to all of those you left behind.

I want to help! I wish there was something I could do to help ease the pain for this family. I hope the township will do something in remembrance of Merinda. I will be there promoting NO DISTRACTED DRIVING!

I wantto do something also. Our daughter was killed by a hit and run driver in April of 2011 on a clear Wednesday afternoon as she walked home from work on Township Line Rd. near the Y. The woman that hit her claimed that she did not even know that she hit ANYTHING, let alone a person. What on Earth are these people doing that is distracting them so?

they need to change and enforce the driving laws....it is sad to know that a family will endure a lifetime of pain and the people responsible get nothing for the crime. Look up the laws..this kid will be lucky to get anything especially if he does not have a prior record..learned that first hand. It is time that people are held accountable for their actions...even the DUI sentencing is a slap in victims faces. It is unbelievable.

Saw her minutes before this tragic accident still can't believe it. I don't understand why joggers want to use Lewis road when its so dangerous especially with no sidewalks.rip

There are sidewalks on Lewis Road and in most places where there is no sidewalks there's a pretty decent shoulder. In this event, it's definitely tragic and was obviously due to a young man not paying attention or under the influence of something. My prayers and condolences go out to Merinda's family, especially her children. She seemed to be a very sweet, loving person. May she rest in peace.
