Limerick Man Arrested for Food Theft at Giant

Over $400 in meat and seafood items were stolen from the Royersford grocery store.

The Giant Foods grocery store contacted the Limerick Township Police Department on September 7 to report a theft.

When police arrived, a department manager told them he had observed John E. Frankenberg, Jr., 51, allegedly taking items and placing them in plastic bags that he had "concealed on his person."

Frankenberg allegedly put the items in bags in a shopping cart, then left the cart near the exit and walked away from it. The store manager then observed Frankenberg returning to the cart about ten minutes later and allegedly walking past all the registers with the cart.

The manager called police, and Officer Brian Tyler arrived and took Frankenberg into custody after talking to store employees.

The items that Frankenberg allegedly attempted to take were meat and seafood items worth approximately $428.

Police discovered that Frankenberg was on probation for another offense. He was arraigned and transported to Montgomery County Correctional Facility pending a formal arraignment in the Court of Common Pleas.
