Limerick Township Supervisor Donates Salary To Charity

Donation benefits local foundation

Limerick Township Supervisor Joseph St. Pedro announced Tuesday night at the Board of Supervisors meeting that he would again be donating his supervisor's salary of $3,250 to the Montgomery County Foundation.

This year is the third time St. Pedro has donated his salary to the foundation.

The foundation is a non-profit organization that exists to help donors realize their philanthropic goals by providing grants within the local community for programs such as emergency assistance with heating and cooling costs and help for local residents who are hungry and homeless.

St. Pedro is involved with the foundation on a day-to-day basis and sees the good work it does in the community.

"This is good because it puts this money directly back into our community," said St. Pedro, the chairman of the board of directors. He also serves on the financial committee.

Foundation President and CEO Virginia Frantz accepted the donation on the group's behalf. St. Pedro plans to continue donating his salary as long as he remains on the board.

"If I get re-elected I'll keep doing this for six more years," he said.

During the rest of the meeting, the board approved the submission of two grant applications for the township.

The first one is a $10,000 PECO Green Region Grant that helps with open space preservation. The township is committed to $25,000 in matching funds, so the PECO grant would make up a large part of the matching funds.

Township Manager Dan Kerr also requested and was granted approval for the Parks and Recreation Department to pursue a $50,000 grant from the Pottstown Health and Wellness Foundation. This grant will allow the Parks and Recreation Department to finish all of the playground work on the Manderach Playground at .
