Sports: Nine Oaks Gators Swim Vs. Skippack

Team holds last meet of the season; championships next week

The Nine Oaks Swim Club hosted Skippack Swim Club in their last dual meet of the season on Thursday evening at the Nine Oaks pool.

Skippack defeated Nine Oaks to remain undefeated and claim the Tri-County Swim League championship.

There are 177 swimmers on the Nine Oaks team and about 150 on the Skippack team. The swimmers range in age from 6 years old to 18 years old.

Competition was fierce between the two teams, but parent Mary Beth Ruckelshaus said the competition is a friendly rivalry.

"Many of the swimmers on both teams swim together in the winter at PV [the Perkiomen Valley Aquatic Club], so they're friends," Ruckleshaus said.

This meet consisted of 66 races, individual and relay. Swimmers score points for their teams, and their times qualify them for the Tri-County Swim League championships on July 21-25.

Nine Oaks also recognized their two senior swimmers, Ellen Davis and Maggie McClain, who both graduated from Spring-Ford Area High School.

Davis swam for Nine Oaks for 3 years.  She plans to study marine biology at Coastal Carolina University.

McClain swam for Nine Oaks for 2 years. She is going to attend Allegheny College, where she will study biology and continue her swimming career.
