NRC: Plant Safe For Restart

Outage caused by transformer short

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced Thursday that they have determined that of Exelon Generating Station's Unit 1 had been repaired and that no corrective action on behalf of the regulatory agency was needed.

In a press release, the NRC officially stated that the outage was caused by an internal fault in a transformer. The transformer was damaged, resulting in "deformation and charring" on the outside.

The transformer was replaced, the unit was restarted, and it returned to full power at about 5:00pm on July 25.
