Open for business

The new McDonald's on West Ridge Pike in Limerick opened at 11:00am Tuesday.

Ronald may be under pressure to hang up his clown shoes, but the brand he represents marches onward.

With a smell of fresh paint still lingering in the air, the new McDonald's store on West Ridge Pike in Limerick opened at 11:00am today.

Equipped with two drive-through lanes, the restaurant is open for business 24 hours a day. By noon today, about two dozen customers had found their way to the register, but larger crowds seem sure to follow.

Perhaps to the disappointment of some local stay-home parents, there are no playground facilities at the restaurant.

The store is owned by John and Lynn Shellenberger of Chester Springs (pictured), who also own the McDonald's restaurants in Royersford and in Phoenixville.

Pottstown McD's is the best just for the indoor play area! I drive up there just for it. These guys made a big mistake b/c Sonic is just across the way and is much better.

Why do we need a playground at an unhealthy fast food joint? We have real playgrounds in the area - don;'t those suffice ??? Like feeding your kid greasy french fries and chewy faux burgers and then setting them loose in the playground is a good thing?? - or is it we are now just too lazy to "parent" and properly care for our children by spending time with them and preparing a meal that is healthy for them. Just my opinion - -

Um yeah... on a cold winter day or warm rainy day or 90+ degree summer day when you have two rammy boys tearing your house apart and you need to take them to a safe place to play or visit with their friends... that's when an indoor playground is nice to have... and there are actually a few healthier options available when this situation arises... plus it is best never to judge... I make a practice to feed myself and my family healthy food but am not "above" a little McD every once in a while... I'm sad there's no playground...congrats to the shellenbergers on the opening!!
