Five straight losses. And one against an NFC East rival.
If that doesn't spell doom and gloom -- as the title of the new Rolling Stones song states -- for the Philadelphia Eagles' season, then a 3-6 record certainly does.
With Michael Vick knocked out by a concussion and the Eagles season pretty much over, the Nick Foles era has begun in Philadelphia.
The Birds showed some promise early on in grabbing a 17-10 lead, but turnovers had the Eagles falling to the Dallas Cowboys, 38-23.
The Cowboys scored touchdowns on a punt return, an interception and a fumble recovery in the end zone, all in a short span to clip the Birds.
Foles looked good at times, keeping his composure in his first NFL game and even firing a 53-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin. But he hadn't gotten any snaps in practice and therefore wasn't in his preseason form.
Now that Vick is hurt and the Birds are cooked before Thanksgiving, Foles should get plenty of reps -- and hopefully plenty of starts.
Coach Andy Reid's tenure, after 14 years, looks like it's over. So it's best for the organization to determine whether Foles is the team's quarterback of the future or whether the team should make a draft pick for a starter like it did taking Donovan McNabb with the second pick in the draft years ago.
It's hard to talk much about the game. This was another must game that turned out to be a big loss and probably the final nail in the Birds' coffin.
There's really not much to say. The defense didn't get the job done, with some terrible tackling once again. The team did get two consecutive sacks but those are as rare these days as spotting Haley's Comet.
It's hard to think about next year before Thanksgiving. And it's even harder to think that the Eagles were once 3-1.
The season is over. Vick's time with the Birds is probably over as well. And Reid is pretty much done.
Maybe, for the rest of the season, fans can turn to Foles as the future of the franchise and the promise that better play will come down the road.

has Reid ever really earned his salary? and Vick should go out on medical leave permanently...he should never been allowed back into NFL after his felony charges...I think this is karma telling him that.

Well said, Nadia. Ever since they signed Vick, I send $$$ to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary every time they lose a game....if Vick gets hurt, I double my contribution....it is money well-spent!

Good for you Maryann. However, put your donations to better use and donate to your *local* shelters - Not someplace that dollars are put to administrative salaries, just as the Humane Society of the US does. Be careful that you are certain that *all* the dollars you give are to help the animals, not to someone's paycheck. Peace.

So much for the Eagles' risky Michael Vick scheme. Foles made some rookie mistakes, but looked better than Vick.
Also, bye-bye Andy. I honestly feel terrible for him, losing a son and, in all probability, his job in less than one year. I hope he can bounce back, on a personal level.

The siver lining is; Now Eagles stuff is very cheap in the stores now. Lurie will fire Reid (soon I hope). Vick is finished. Jon Gruden will be the new coach (praying).

Honestly, Andy Reid has never been a good coach. The man behind the success during most of his tenure was D coordinator Jim Johnson. No coincidence that since he died several years ago, the eagles have only two playoff appearances and both were first round exits. The eagles defense was what carried this team all those seasons, not Andy's terrible offensive play calling. All of that has been exposed now.

Hiring Vick enabled the Eagles to trade off McNabb, who was ready for the scrap heap of NFL history. It used to be anyone but McNabb. Now it's anyone but Vick. Too bad Lurie can't be run out of town leaving the team with an owner who cares about his customers. Blame the owner for keeping failures on the payroll. Sell tshirts with Lurie's name x-ed out.

Hi Slyfox: I am with you on this one. I am a huge supporter of the CC Animal Shelter, Almost Home, both shelters on Voorhees, Oasis, etc. (can you guess, animals are a great part of my life, and also my business) My commitment to Best Friends is because they took in and rehabbed many of the dogs that Vick and his cohorts tortured. I've always believed in "you reap what you sow." I think that Vick is finally getting his due. Peace
