Picketers Protest Dollar Tree Contractor

A local carpenters' union placed protesters outside the former Rite Aid location Wednesday.

Five Metropolitan Regional Council of Carpenters members were walking the picket line on Wednesday at the former Eckerd/Rite Aid location on the corner of Lewis Road and Ridge Pike.

The location is currently being remodeled into a Dollar Tree store, and the union members were there protesting against Camporini Contracting.

The contractor is owned by Tom Camporini and located in Warren County, NJ. Camporini is remodeling the store under contract from Dollar Tree.

The union's picket signs accuse Camporini of not honoring "carpenter area wages and standards".

Tom Camporini told Patch that the union says he isn't paying the going rate, but they don't actually know what he pays his employees.

"They want to see my books, and I refused," Camporini said.

The picketers' leader, Bill Collins, said Camporini's crew are not members of their union, as far as he knows.

One picketer said he didn't know what the protest was about.

"We just get assigned to come and stand here," he said.

[Editor's note: Patch reached out to the Metropolitan Regional Council of Carpenters via Collins, but as of publication time the union has yet to comment. We will update the story if we hear from the union.]
