Possible Fire Briefly Blocks Main Street

Open Door Ministries employees called emergency services; no fire evident

Four local fire companies responded to an emergency call from the Open Door Ministries building at 348 Main Street, Royersford, this afternoon.

Spring City, Royersford, Limerick and Linfield Fire companies all responded to the call.

There was no visible smoke coming from the building. Patch spoke to an Open Door employee named Ashley who said there was a strong smell that she would "characterize as burning wire" earlier today. The odor went away, then came back about twenty minutes before the emergency call, Ashley said.

Ashley also told Patch that the air conditioner in the building had stopped working and the heat came on.

Firefighters were observed entering and exiting the building via the roof, but no fire-suppression measures were taken.

Open Door employees were seen re-entering the building and then leaving with their belongings.

Taxpayer speaking/ Contributor speaking......I love my town, and the town next door, but do we really need to send the Libs to Rofo on mutual aid for this and others like it? With two fire company buildings in Rofo this just wastes resources. Standby, yes, rolling out for nothing confirmed..NO! This is why we have to consolidate. We spend way too much fuel in both counties, rolling hardware just in case. And yes ...I have been affected by a fire next door. Thanks to the responders!!

Maybe you should contribute more, like volunteer to help the Fire departments. Just maybe you might under why things happen the way they do. Then again, since you singled out one of three companies that were called, perhaps you already know why and this is just a personal beef you have with Spring City. Not bashing Royersford, but Spring City has previously been called to several other fire recently in Royersford and were infact the first to arrive. That in itself is justification for why Royersford calls them. It is called "Team Work"

I was not saying anything negative about the depts. Montgomery County tax money does not pay for the fuel or for the equipment breakdowns. Nor do Montgomery County boot drives. The SC borough stipend does not pay enough to cover that either. Look at all of the local fire company consolidations of late. When SC comes at us with a fire tax, the horse has already left the corral. Again. This has nothing to do with the departments or how they interact.

Let's break this down....

I love my town, and the town next door, [That's nice...thanks for the love] but do we really need to send the Libs to Rofo on mutual aid for this and others like it [Yes]? With two fire company buildings in Rofo this just wastes resources [Not at all wasting resources, as stated in study after study volunteers are dwindling especially during the day. They are not wasting resources, they are making up for manpower resources that are not available at the time]. Standby, yes, rolling out for nothing confirmed..NO [If you looked at the pictures, Spring City's truck had the ladder up in the rear of the building investigating. So according to your logic, you would rather them drive over the river to standby and do nothing]! This is why we have to consolidate [Done]. We spend way too much fuel in both counties, rolling hardware just in case [In 100 calls, I would send the trucks home 99 times for nonsense to have them coming for the one time when it is an actual fire]. And yes ...I have been affected by a fire next door [Not affected enough apparently]. Thanks to the responders [Your sincere thanks is appreciated. Please support during fund drives]!!

It is likely that the reason Liberty was called to the fire, along with Linfield, is the need for manpower. Fire companies are experiencing a shortage of volunteers during the daytime. Sometimes it is necessary to call several companies to make sure you have enough people and apparatus in case there was a fire.

A very good justification. This happens more than not. Ask the Golden Age Manor..

Local Yocal I am sure there was a good reason for dispatching the number of crews that they did at 4pm in the afternoon. I am sure Spring-City was covered by someone while they were out. I am very thankful for the Volunteers that we have and will never criticize what they do. They do something that many of us would not want to do and that is to run into burning buildings. I am sure there is a reason why SC was dispatched to this call. I rather have them called in right away that way if something bad is going on. I am sure the departments that responded or the Montgomery County 911 could answer your questions about how they dispatch companies. It should also be noted that Royersford only has 1 department but in 2 buildings for the time being until they get the funding to add on or build a new one.

Montco does not distinguish between i smell smoke from an oven and the whole building is burning down. For liability reasons they dispatch aggressively. Rofo like every other company in the area has mutual aid dispatched for building fires or possible building fires. That being said we will continue to protect you to spite your ignorance. Your right to free speech is yours to have just make your words sound educated. Also stop by Mondays at 7 we will be training and you can pick up an app to join. Good day!
