Royersford Borough Gets MontCo Open Space Grant

The borough plans to clean up areas along the river.

Royersford Borough Manager told council at Tuesday's meeting that the borough will be receiving a grant from Montgomery County to be used for open space projects.

Leonard said he is waiting on a letter to see how much the grant will be and when it will be disbursed, and it will be earmarked to work on Royersford's section of the Schuylkill River Trail to Arch Street.

Leonard said he had some ideas for other open space funds in the boroughs possession.

"We have $80,000 in open space money," Leonard said. "I would like to get bids to clean up the concrete and macadam along the river, put dirt down and replant grass along there."

Council agreed that cleaning up along the river was a good use of the funds as it would make the area more attractive.

Council also voted to accept two bids for the 2000 Dodge Durango truck and the 1995 Chevrolet Caprice owned by the borough. New public works director/fire marshal Craig Keffer is using a Ford F350 already owned by the public works department and the borough opted to sell the two extra vehicles to save on maintenance and insurance costs.

Two individuals bid for the vehicles; the Durango sold for just over $1800 and the Caprice sold for just over $2600.

Council is alo putting out Requests for Proposals to fix the five large windows along the Third Avenue side of borough hall and to have the building's masonry repointed to help with water leakage issues.

Council president Thomas Weikel said it was important to "maintain the look of the building."

The Parks and Recreation committee announced that the yearly Easter Egg Hunt will be on March 23, 2013 at Victory Park. Plans are still shaping up for that.
