During Tuesday evening's Royersford Borough Council meeting, one local business owner asked council to consider changing the parking allowed on Main Street.
Anthony Berdomas, owner of Main Street Cafe, told council that he has heard from customers that they don't visit his restaurant because "they have to park far away."
Berdomas said that he'll often see cars parked in the same spots on Main Street, near his business, for hours during the day.
The municipal lot behind Borough Hall, between 3rd and 4th Avenues, is also often full of cars belonging to apartment residents.
"People have told me they'll drive by, and if there's no parking, they go on down to Spring-Ford Diner because they have a parking lot," Berdomas said.
Berdomas said he would like council to consider limiting the hours someone could park directly on Main Street in front of the businesses' storefronts.
"Maybe put in two-hour parking, or something like that," Berdomas said.
Borough manager Michael Leonard agreed that parking can be an issue.
"Sometimes I can't find a place to park to come to work [at Borough Hall]," Leonard said.
Council president Thomas Weikel suggested having the borough's Public Safety Committee look at the problem and bring ideas back to council.
Other council meeting news
- The borough is considering ordinances to require inspections of homes that are bought and sold within the borough and inspections of apartments in the borough. "We have a lot of apartments that we don't even know are there," Leonard said. "It's a life safety issue."
- The Parks and Recreation Committee will be holding the annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 23rd at Victory Park.
- Council voted to waive the land development process for Superior Credit Union, which is taking over the former gas station property at Main Street ad Lewis Road. Borough solicitor Alan Boroff said that land development could be waived because the credit union is not changing the building and they are willing to put in landscaping improvements and streetlights.

The credit union moving to that location is a bad idea. That loction will have access issues with that intersection. The traffic lights there are poorly timed. Have you ever seen the backup that occurs when a car attempts to turn left into the bank or auto parts store across the street? The same thing will occur when someone attempts to turn left into this property off of Lewis Rd or across the turning lane on Main St.

maybe people are driving by cause the service is so bad at the Main Street Cafe. I know that's why I don't go there anymore. Godd food but the service stinks. Ver slow....

I'm not sure when you stopped in, but I assure you whatever you experienced on your last visit has been resolved. I apologize for any type of issue you had inside our restaurant and would very much like to invite you back. Both myself and my partner have been in this industry for a long time and know that service is just as important as the food. We hope that you will stop in again and have the great experience that so many of our other guests experience. And thank you for bringing an honest opinion to our restaurant.

Not sure when your last visit was but service has gotten much better. The first time i was there it was horrible. Not good when you have kids with you. But the last time, which was a few weeks ago, it was much better. It was a Sunday morning...lots of servers hustling around and quick service! Give them another chance...

There already is a parking ordinance for Main Street. Don't quote me but I believe the cars have to be off Main St by 9:00 pm and can't park over night. Unless that has changed in recent years.

Unfortunately on Main Street the only limitation is parking between 3 and 5 am. So a person could park there from 6am till 3pm the whole day most businesses are open. We (the businesses) would just like to see some type of 2 hour parking or something so our customers can have better access to us.

On that side of the street, I believe there are only signs saying that no parking is allowed from 2-3 AM on Sundays.

The parking is only limited to between 3am to 5am. So many cars can park on main street for the duration that the businesses are open. We think that a timed parking situation would be a good option for the Main Street.
