The Balch Family welcomed Shane Jr. at 12:11 a.m. Tuesday; a Lafayette Hill woman gave birth to the county's first baby in Abington at 12:05 a.m.
UPDATE:
On the other side of the county, Sara and Greg Stokes welcomed Marguerite Lynn at 12:05 a.m. at Abington Memorial Hospital, making her the 2013 first baby born in the region.

Jessica and Shane Balch of Schwenksville welcomed the area’s first baby of 2013 at Grand View Hospital on Tuesday morning, according to The Reporter.
Shane Balch Jr., little brother of twins Matthew and Zackary, weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces when he was born at 12:11 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Shane Balch Sr., who works at Asher’s Chocolates in Souderton, told The Reporter that Jessica was not due until Jan. 20, but a Caesarean section was scheduled for Jan. 4 because it was a high-risk pregnancy.
He said the family was surprised when her water broke on New Year’s Eve.
