Search for Police Chief Winding Down

Spring City met for its monthly borough council meeting, but still have some things to do in terms of the police chief position.

The Spring City Borough Council met for its regular monthly meeting on Monday night. The roughly one-hour meeting concluded with a quick report from councilor Donald Shaner concerning the search for a new police chief.

Shaner thanked councilor Thomas Kratz and borough administrator Dennis Rittenhouse for their help in the search. The trio placed an ad in The Daily Local News in West Chester, and according to Shaner, received resumes from 28 people. Applicants were from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Florida.

Shaner quickly moved through his presentation, saying the applicants were interviewed and narrowed down. He said the committee selected a candidate that was the best choice and requested an executive session to discuss the matter further.

The board went in to executive session, but came out with no clear verdict.

According to councilor Mike Hays, it is unknown when the final decision will be made. The next meeting will be on Sept. 6, which is a Tuesday, because Labor Day is that Monday.

"It is our hope to have the selection process finished and a new chief in place sometime in September pending a vote by council and the acceptance of the position by the candidate," Shaner said.

The month of August will be slow for Spring City meetings, as all committee meetings are canceled. Councilor Jim Burns wanted to remind the community that tonight is National Night Out and Spring City will play host to its town-wide event.
