Speed Limit Reduction on Lewis Road Requested
Limerick Township made the request earlier this week.
During Tuesday's Limerick Board of Supervisors meeting, township manager Dan Kerr said that he sent a letter to PennDOT requesting that they look at reducing the speed limit on Lewis Road.
The speed limit is currently 45 mph on some parts of Lewis Road. Because it is a state road, the township has to go through PennDOT to make any changes like this.
Keer said that PennDOT will probably do a traffic study and ask for information from the township and the police department.
"They usually ask for crash reports, incident reports, and the police department will give them all the information," Kerr said.
Kerr also said that while the township cannot ask for a specific speed limit in their request, he expects PennDOT would drop it to 35 mph.

No matter what the speed limit is things happen. What needs to happen is for people to wake up and remember they are driving a vehicle and they need to pay attention to the road and the surroundings and not text or talk on the cell phone. If texting or talking on cell phone is that important-- there are many places along the road to safely pull over and stop driving. How did we ever survive years ago-- oh wait--we left early enough to get somewhere or we pulled over at a phone booth and called or waited till we got home.

I certainly hope this is approved. While it may make it harder to get out of our driveway, the area is too built up and the road too narrow for 45 mph. Accidents do happen,, but lower speed can mean less serious injury or damage.

Its a start. Just remember though that just because it is posted, people won't adhere to it. This will need to go hand-in-hand with the local law enforcement officers having more of a presence on this road.

Know matter what the speed limit isposted, we the people have to obey it. Seems the only speed liimt most people obey is a school zone. If its posted 35,45 or 55 that is the speed limit NOT 60, 70 or what ever. Everyone has to slow down.

I drive Lewis Rd daily--Just yesterday I had some one pull in front of me at the same site of the tragic accident. I'm assuming to pick up their children at the daycare--scary. My exact thoughts were that there is too much traffic and too many homes & business along the road for the speed limit to be 45. I hope Penn Dot approves the decrease and that the local police will enforce it. Next step maybe some sidewalks! I know neither of those things would have prevented Merinda's death but maybe it will prevent a future tragedy.

I would love the change! My children's bus stop is on Lewis, and daily I see people speeding (several on the phone). We have at least twenty children on our stop. Could prevent a terrible tragedy.

changing the speed limit will only do one thing - make more money for limerick twp; as far as slowing people down- won't happen- people here have to learn to be aware of their surrondings and watch what they are doing instead of being on cell phones and having a no care attitude- so many drivers are IGNORANT and ARROGANT it is sad- it is all about me seems to be their thoughts- it is bad tround here but other areas are truly so much worse

I 2nd the notion for a light at Lewis and King. This is a VERY dangerous intersection.

You have my vote too! That intersection is horrendous most of the day, every day. A light would be great there!

Good idea. Lower it to 35 so as to keep traffic speed at 40-45. 50-55 is too fast for that area.
