Spring-Ford Schools Closed Wednesday
Tuesday evening activities cancelled following afternoon power outage; PECO: 45,000 out in Montgomery and Chester counties
Update 7:20 p.m. A PECO representative told Patch that the utility is still in the process of assessing damage from the storms and does not yet have an estimate for when power will be restored in the affected areas.
PECO estimates that 45,000 customers in Montgomery and Chester counties are without power at this time.
Initial story below.
A Skylert message sent to parents by the Spring-Ford Area School District announced that all district schools will be closed tomorrow after a major power outage on Tuesday afternoon.
All evening activities on Tuesday and Wednesday's high school open house were also cancelled.
The Skylert message advised parents that the closure was due to the magnitude of the outage.
The outage struck Upper Providence Elementary School, the 5th/6th/7th grade Center, the 9th Grade Center, and the high school around 4:00pm.
As we reported, students were evacuated to the 8th Grade Center.
The message advised parents that all students had been dismissed by 6:00pm and "are safely on their way home."
PECO is working on repairing the outage. Several other areas, according to reports on Facebook, are also still without power.
Patch is waiting to hear from PECO on when the outage is expected to be repaired.
