St. Pedro Takes Gavel in Limerick

New tax collector sworn in; new State Rep. Mark Painter intends to remain visible at township level

Joseph St. Pedro assumed the chairmanship of the Limerick Township Board of Supervisors on Monday evening, taking the gavel from fellow supervisor Kara Shuler.

"I have big shoes to fill," St. Pedro said in complimenting Shuler on her execution of the role over the past year.

Elaine DeWan will serve as vice-chair.

The mandated annual reorganization meeting was attended by former township tax collector ― and newly sworn-in State Representative ― Mark Painter. Painter, a Democrat, upset favored incumbent and former Royersford mayor Tom Quigley in last fall's election.

The township supervisors congratulated Painter on taking his seat in Harrisburg, and he, in turn, assured them that he intends to remain in close touch with municipal goings-on.

"Either me or someone from my office will be attending all of [Limerick Township's] meetings," Painter said.

Painter officially resigned as township tax collector, a position that was then filled by appointee Ryan Wall. Wall was sworn in by Magisterial District Judge Walter Gadzicki.

Wall, a 2004 Spring-Ford graduate, will complete the final year of Painter's term. He said that he hasn't yet considered whether he will run for election to the post.
