Teen Hurt in Limerick Crash

A 16-year-old boy was taken to the hospital by medical helicopter after being struck by a car on Township Line Road in Limerick on Wednesday night.
The accident took place near the intersection with Spring Lake Road at about 10 p.m.
Limerick Fire Company Chief Ken Shuler said the victim was airlifted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. No information was immediately available on his condition.
Township Line Road remained closed late Wednesday night between Ridge Pike and Linfield-Trappe Road in the wake of the accident.
Authorities could be seen taking measurements at the scene in what appeared to be an investigation of the crash. Police were closely examining a silver Toyota Corolla that was stopped in the roadway. The car's windshield was broken on the passenger side of the car.
Initial radio reports indicated that the victim may have been riding a bicycle at the time of the crash. A bicycle was visible lying on the side of the road at the crash scene.
Limerick Township Police Sergeant Robert Matalavage said that three or four other boys were with the victim at the time of the crash and that police were still trying to piece together what exactly took place.
The driver of the car was not being held on any charges as of late Wednesday night, Matalavage said.
Limerick Township Detective Matthew Daywalt said the driver was cooperating with authorities and that he did not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Another accident on township line road. Pedestrains and bicyclist are crazy for thinking theyll survive this road. Limerick needs to address that people are on the roadways and create sidewalks or deaths and accidents will continue.

The YMCA, the Target Shopping Center, the ACME Shopping Center, PJP, the former Burbank Grove Development... All people who the townships could have required to put a larger shoulder, a sidewalk or walking trail in along Township Line Rd. Instead they place walking trails randomly throughout the townships where people don't use them. They never connect to each other either. They say they will "eventually" but this has been going on for 10 years. What happened to the old fashioned sidewalk?

I moved out here eight years ago from Delco and couldn't believe they didn't have sidewalks! They are so needed as well as an expansion of some sort on Rt 29 between Schwenksville Road and Spring Mount Road. ( I think that's a state rd?)

How many young people are we going to lose before the township realizes sidewalks are needed! Please, please, please SIDEWALKS. Too many lives have been lost already. My heart breaks for this family.

I'm curious about this incident. Was the teen riding his bike on the wrong side of the road? Was he wearing a helmet? Was he using earphones at the time? Was it after dark, and if so, was the bicycle equipped with a front light and a rear reflector or tail light. All of these would be violations of state law (the helmet is age dependent) which would put the cyclist at fault. Police do not enforce bicycle laws enough.
Recreation trails or bicycle lanes alongside busy roads would be fantastic. There is federal money available for them. Sidewalks are not the answer for bicyclists, since it is usually illegal to ride bicycles on them. I do think Limerick needs to start connecting the town with sidewalks for pedestrians and bike lanes for cyclists. The benefits include encouraging people to drive cars less and exercise more.
