NRC Announces Limerick Power Plant Renewal Availability

Power plant looks for 20-year extension of the operating licenses.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission released a statement announcing that the Limerick Generating Station has submitted an application for a 20-year renewal of the operating licenses.

The application is now available for public review.

The station Units 1 and 2 are boiling-water nuclear reactors, located in Limerick Township.

According to the release, the current operating licenses for Units 1 and 2 expire on Oct. 26, 2024, and June 22, 2029, respectively. The licensee, Exelon Generation Co., LLC, submitted the renewal application June 22.

The NRC staff said that it "is currently conducting an initial review of the application to determine whether it contains enough information for the required formal review. If the application has sufficient information, the NRC will formally 'docket,' or file, the application and will announce an opportunity to request a public hearing."

Documents for Limerick license renewal application will be available on the NRC website on the license renewal Web page.
