Upper Providence Elementary Decorates Library

The following was sent in by Wendy Pflugler, librarian at Upper Providence Elementary School: What happens when talent, kindness, and cooperation are mixed together?  You get the “WOW“ factor!  Last fall Mrs. Pflugler and Miss Winkler, the librarian and art teachers for Upper Providence Elementary, decided the library needed some color.  The result was a cooperative effort between the two Upper Providence Elementary teachers, Mrs. Crane (the high school art teacher), and eight of her talented students.  These dedicated students volunteered their time over the next few months to create art based on classic children’s stories. Spring-Ford Youth Community Theater's performance of The Laramie Project was reviewed in Stage Magazine recently.

The following clip comes from Walter Bender of Stage Magazine. The Spring-Ford Youth Community Theater recently put on performances of the controversial Laramie Project. Here is part of the review: The Spring-Ford Youth Community Theater opened THE LARAMIE PROJECT on May 3, a compilation of interviews by the Tectonic Theater Project and Moises Kaufman. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is the result of interviewing hundreds of people in Laramie, Wyoming, about the killing of University of Wyoming student Matthew Sheppard in 1998. Sheppard, a young gay man, was beaten to death, and his murder was labeled a hate crime. The ensuing publicity brought attention to the lack of hate crime laws throughout the country, including Wyoming. In addition to the …

"The Last Summer" Trailer Debuts in June

The independent film trailer was partially filmed at a Spring City funeral home. It will make its debut in Jenkintown on June 23.

Patch was at the final day of filming at Spring City's Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home in March: On June 23, we will be holding a screening of "The Last Summer Trailer" at the "HiWay Theatre" in Jenkintown Pa. from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. All proceeds from tickets sales go to the cost of the theatre and continuing promotions for "The Last Summer." For the first time, KeyLight Films is going to premiere multiple trailers, edited in different ways for our upcoming feature film "The Last Summer." SF Students Win Top Honors in Art Contest

Spring-Ford students score top prizes in Pennsylvania American Water "Protect Our Watersheds" Art Contest. Fifth straight year that Spring-Ford captures award in statewide contest.

The following release was submitted by Terry Maenza, Director of Communications and External Affairs at Pennsylvania American Water: HERSHEY, Pa. (May 9, 2011) – Two students from Spring-Ford Intermediate School earned top honors in Pennsylvania American Water’s 10th Annual “Protect Our Watersheds” Art Contest. The company received more than 800 entries from fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders across the commonwealth. Pennsylvania American Water announced the contest winners as part of National Drinking Water Week, which runs May 6-12. Sixth-grader Rachel Kearon received first place honors for eastern Pennsylvania for her artwork depicting a clean stream and wildlife, titled “Help Protect our Watersheds.” Spring-Ford sixth-grader Emily Wen …

SF 6th-Graders Finish 2nd Part of Fused Glass Project

Spring-Ford Sixth-Grade Students Complete Second Phase of Fused Glass Art Project for the 5-6 Grade Center

The following release was submitted by Phil Ellingsworth Jr., representing the Spring-Ford Area School District: ROYERSFORD — Spring-Ford Intermediate School’s sixth-grade art students recently completed a glass tile “window” for their building, continuing a project that began in the fall with their fifth-grade counterparts. Sixth-grade students in Cheryl Kramer’s art class began the second phase of the fused art project in March. With the help of professional Philadelphia mosaic artist Jessica Gorlin Liddell, students created individual tiles of colored glass that complemented the designs that were created earlier. Once the students completed the design phase, Liddell returned them to her glass studio for firing, also known as “fusing.” …

The following release was submitted by Phil Ellingsworth Jr., representing the Spring-Ford Area School District: ROYERSFORD — The artistic talents of students in grades 7 through 12 will be on display this weekend during  the annual Spring-Ford Arts Festival, which will be held Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at the 10-12 Center. From 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, community members will be able to visit the main gym and see art projects, as well as technology education displays from students in grades 9 through 12, and family and consumer science projects from students in grades 7 through 12.
