According to Coach Chris Murphy, Spring-Ford won its home opener at Center
Ice in Oaks on Friday night because, “the boys played with discipline and kept
their heads when it got tough out there.” And it got tough early when Methacton
scored two unanswered goals early in the first period.

“We stayed calm because we had been here before against Methacton in the Ice Works Teaser Tournament a few weeks ago and we knew we could score on them,” added Murphy.

Score they did. Junior Tyler Murphy ignited the crowd and team with a breakaway
goal followed shortly by a second goal. From that point on, despite being
outshot 29 to 24, Spring-Ford remained in control of the game.

Though the score remained close, SF stayed ahead of Methacton with outstanding goal keeping by Sophomore Chris Hunsburger. Scoring for the Rams were Junior Tom Kisela with two goals. Seniors Jon Palmer and Dan Lampmann added a goal apiece. Lampmann’s goal late in the 3rd period, a stinging slap shot from the point, seemed to take the wind out of Methacton’s sails as SF went on to win the game just like they did in that tournament a few weeks ago.
