  referred to as social skill deficits are actually learning gaps in soci
 al cognition. Social cognition is the ability to think in a social conte
 xt and apply social skills relevant to the situation. In order for child
 ren to improve their social skills they must be taught how to develop th
 eir social cognition. The vast majority of social skills training method
 s teach rote memorization of "surface skills"\, not thinking skills. Thi
 s presentation will help you to understand the foundation of social lear
 ning needs and what can be done to help improve social cognition. Ryan W
