Author Dan Gutman Connected with Aspiring Writers at Brooke Elementary School and Oaks Elementary School for “A Day in the Life of an Author” on Oct. 25

ROYERSFORD – Noted children’s author Dan Gutman shared his insight as a writer with Brooke Elementary School and Oaks Elementary School, discussing how his passion for sports led him to his success as a writer.

Mr. Gutman’s visit is part of the schools’ efforts to inspire students in reading and writing by hosting popular authors.  His presentation took students through the steps of the writing and publishing process, from the original idea, through researching a project, outlining, writing, editing, re-writing, and cover design, all leading to the finished book.

Mr. Gutman, the author of over 100 books and e-books, including the popular My Weird School series, the award-winning Baseball Card series, and his newest series, Genius Files, was at the schools on Friday, Oct. 25, presenting “A Day in the Life of an Author.”

“The students love him, they eat up his stories and have definitely been reading more,” said Stephanie Rittenhouse, Media Specialist at Oaks Elementary School.  Miss Rittenhouse noted that after author visits, students are more inspired to write and flex their creative muscles.

Alex Craig, a 4th grade student at Brooke Elementary School, recalled that when he began reading larger children’s novels, his favorite author was Mr. Gutman.

“Most of the time, reading is fun,” Alex said, adding that he has become a better and more focused reader in recent months.  “It can be educational, too.  Reading helps you in a lot of different ways, and definitely in school.”
