Cedar Crest College and Reading Hospital and Medical Center offer M.S.N. Program to Reading Area Nurses

Cedar Crest College’s partnership with The Reading Hospital and Medical Center continues to make education for Reading area nurses interested in earning their Master of Science in Nursing easily accessible. As the College prepares for a new cohort of students this fall, all nurses in the city of Reading and the surrounding area are welcome to apply and take advantage of this accredited program, which benefits the student, and, in turn, positively impacts the community as a whole.

 “The M.S.N degree opens a lot of doors for nurses,” said Wendy Robb, Chair of Cedar Crest’s Nursing Department and director of the graduate nursing program. “The degree offers more opportunities for nurses who are looking for those leadership and management positions in the field that a B.S.N. degree just cannot provide.”

Cedar Crest’s partnership with The Reading Hospital and Medical Center began in 2012 in order to provide a convenient way for nurses at the hospital and beyond to earn their M.S.N. degree. Classes are held during the day at The Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences campus. Robb said that her department ensures an identical academic experience for those at the Reading site as those who attend the Allentown campus. This means—same faculty, same curriculum, same quality degree.

 “Those faculty members who wrote the program and developed it are the same faculty who are teaching the course to our Reading students,” Robb said.

Robb added that the program’s chief agenda is to increase accessibility to those nurses who may otherwise have to travel a great distance and sacrifice significant time to earn their degree.  “It’s about convenience. It’s about having the program right there in the community. We want our friends in the Reading area to have complete access to our programs without having to make the long drive to Allentown.”

Cedar Crest’s nursing programs are designed to meet the educational needs of nurses at a time when the Affordable Care Act and the National Institute of Medicine’s recommendation to have 80 percent of all nurses be baccalaureate prepared are being initiated. Cedar Crest’s RN-BSN program was recently launched entirely online, providing the convenience which many students today, particularly working adults, desire.
