Royersford Dentist Collects 450 lbs of Candy for Troops

Through the Royersford Dentist's 'Operation Buyback,' families shared their extra candy.

Area families donated 450 pounds of Halloween candy through Royersford Dentist’s Eric Paster’s ‘Operation Buyback’ program, which kicked off this year.

Between Nov. 1 and Nov. 15, residents were asked to drop off their extra Halloween candy at Paster’s Walnut Street office, and they received $1 for every pound they contributed.

St. Mary School of Schwenksville contributed the most candy as a group, bringing in 205 pounds.  The largest individual donation was 16.5 pounds.

The candy collected was sent to active duty troops from Philadelphia and South Jersey.

In addition to providing treats for troops, Paster also said the program was helpful in preventing dental-related problems in children and adults after Halloween.

“Dentists used to think that just consuming sugar caused tooth decay. We now know that decay is linked to the amount of time sugar stays on the surface of the tooth," said Paster.
