Full Siren Tests This Afternoon for Limerick Nuclear Plant

Today's test will be the full three-minute test instead of the new shorter alarm sound.

If the Limerick Generating Station's sirens seem especially loud during today's test, don't worry - it's not an accident at the plant.

The plant tests all their alarms monthly, on the first Monday if the month at 2pm. After the new siren system was installed earlier this year, the regular monthly test changed from the full-volume alarm to a shorter, quieter growl test.

However, twice a year, on the first Mondays of June and December, the plant runs the full-volume three-minute test with which many area residents are familiar.
