GALLERY: Royersford Borough Has Successful First Annual Community Day

Sunny skies decided to make an appearance for Saturday's first ever .

The weather was a welcome change from all the rain the last two weeks and area residents happily turned out to walk up and down Main Street, visiting tables occupied by local restaurants, vendors and community organizations.

Planned by Connie Lawson of , Annamarie Chestnut of , and Jan Christman of , along with the rest of the Royersford Business Association, Community Day is a successor to the sidewalk sales of years past.

Lawson was pleased with the size of the crowd.

"It's better than I hoped," she said.

"I can't even begin to guess how many people are here," Chestnut said.

Classic cars lined Main Street, ranging from a 1929 Ford to a 2010 Camaro. The police and fire departments were also out meeting the public, giving out safety information and letting families explore an ambulance, two fire trucks and a 1929 Ford Model A fire truck with a hand-cranked siren.

Several local business owners took part in the dunk tank in the kids' games area in the parking lot near Borough Hall. There was also face-painting, with Disney characters and the birds from the Angry Birds game appearing to be popular choices.

The RBA gave out trophies to the classic car showcase winners. Four trophies were awarded from local businesses, while Community Day attendees voted on a People's Choice trophy.

The People's Choice winner was a 1961 Chevy Corvette convertible owned by Barry Mourer. Mourer said that he had owned the white Corvette for several years, and had recently restored it.

Lawson was thrilled with the crowd of area residents.

"I couldn't be more pleased with how this went," she said.
