Spring City Library Building to be Demolished Wednesday

A new facility will be built over the next year.

Demolition will begin on the Spring City Library building Wednesday, making room for a new $1.9 million facility.

The building, located at 245 Broad Street, will go down around 10 a.m. on Wednesday; the process will begin at 7 a.m. Residents are invited to stop by and see the construction.

A new $1.19 million facility, thanks in part to a $500,000 donation from former librarian Bertha Bower, grant fund and donations, will be built over the next year by Delran.

Currently, library operations are held out of a temporary location at 2 Riverside Drive in the Riveredge Center until completion of the project.

"The new library will create a comfortable, inviting, modern environment for Spring City and East Vincent residents, from the youngest to the oldest, where quality service will continue to be provided for all," according to a release from the library board. "The library is already a staple in the community with over 700 visitors weekly, a healthy circulation of materials and lots of programming. With its new building, it will become the place where family, information, technology, knowledge, learning, literacy and community converge."

Donations, which are tax-deductible, should be made payable to the Spring City Public Library and sent to the library's temporary location at 2 Riverside Drive, Spring City, PA, 19475. Note in the memo that your donation is for the Building Project. Donations can also be made online by clicking on “Make a Donation” on the left side of the page.

For information on naming rights to certain interior areas of the library, or other ways to help, contact Board President Terry McCarthy at mctea43@comcast.net.
