Spring-Ford Rotary Club Gets Ready for 35th Pancake Breakfast

The popular breakfast benefits a variety of organizations in the Spring-Ford area

Over 800 people came out to support last year’s Spring-Ford Area Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast. The event was so popular that the Rotarians actually ran out of sausage, serving 1,600 Hatfield sausage links.

“We ordered more this year,” Tom Smith, Spring-Ford Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast chair, said.

Specifically, the Rotary Club ordered 260-pounds of 2-ounce Hatfield sausage links.

The 35th-annual Spring-Ford Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast will take place March 3, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Friendship Hook Ladder Hose and Ambulance, located at 269 Green St. in Royersford.

This year will again present an all-you-can-eat opportunity for attendees to chow-down on plain, blueberry and chocolate pancakes, as well as other familiar breakfast items. According to Smith, attendees will also have the option of trying homemade fritters and desserts, such as shoo fly pie.

“We think we give a pretty good meal,” Smith said.

Smith, who has lead the organization of the annual pancake breakfast since 1993, said in an article on Limerick Patch last year, that the 34rd-annual breakfast raised $7,000. He said that the breakfast over its history has raised well-over $100,000 for several community organizations.

“It’s a fundraising event,” Smith said, adding that it is the largest fundraiser of the club for the year. “The more money we raise, the more we can give back to the community.”

According to Smith, the event originated when the Spring-Ford Rotary Club responded to a request for financial aid from a community member in need. It has since grown to helping over 10 community organizations, including, Spring-Ford High School Baseball, Spring City Pool and the Spring Valley YMCA.

According to Smith, the community organizations have worked with the Spring-Ford Area Rotary Club over the years.

Smith said that some representatives of the organizations choose to volunteer at the breakfast, while a majority of the volunteers come from Spring-Ford High School's Interact Club, a junior arm of the Rotary Club.

In addition to the breakfast, the attendees may participate in a raffle with prizes donated by Rotary Club members and area businesses, such as:

  • A 50-inch LCD television
  • A family membership to the Freedom Valley YMCA
  • Cash prizes
  • 100-gallons of heating fuel, as donated by Oehlert Brothers.
