Resolve to Work Out? 10th Avenue Fitness Wants You!

A fitness center in Royersford reopened under a new name recently.

One of the most popular New Year's resolutions always seems to be to work out more, or exercise more, or lose weight. Luckily for women in the Royersford area, a new fitness center has opened to help with that.

When the Lady of America on 10th Avenue closed suddenly on November 1, many members were left wondering what was next. Their memberships were transferred to another gym in Gilbertsville, twenty miles away.

Enter Chris Dowd, who saw the great potential in the gym location and, just ten days later, reopened the gym location as 10th Avenue Fitness.

"We have a base of customers here that loves the format," Dowd said. "We heard from members that they'd support it if it was still open."

Dowd has hired back 90 percent of the Lady of America staff and kept the same slate of Les Mills programs (the lower-impact Bodyvive and Bodyflow, the popular Bodypump and Bodystep, and the tougher Bodyattack and Bodycombat) as well as cycling, piloxing and several other small-group classes.

"We didn't want regular members to have their workouts suffer," Dowd said.

While some things are staying the same, such as the women-only format and the classes, Dowd plans a few changes, starting with the decor. Some members have already made suggestions.

Dowd also said he would like to work on getting members into weight training and cardio in addition to the classes they already attend. 10th Avenue Fitness will also offer nutrition counseling, free fitness consultations and personal training. Memberships are month-to-month but there are pay-in-advnace plans available.

Dowd hopes that members who haven't come back yet would give 10th Avenue Fitness a chance.

"We want our members to love it and keep spreading the word," Dowd said.
