Royersford Dentist Launches 'Operation Buyback' For Halloween Candy

Save your teeth, make a buck, and donate to U.S. troops on active duty.

Royersford Dentist Eric Paster has announced the first “Operation Buyback” at his cosmetic dental practice, candy buyback program to support Liberty USO of Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

"We want children and families to enjoy Halloween, including their collected candy,” Paster said. “What we find is that most families have more sweets in their home after Halloween than they need or want  — candy sits around the house and becomes an unhealthy snack after the thrill of Halloween has passed.”

Children of all ages can bring their leftover Halloween candy to Paster’s office at 500 Walnut Street in Royersford between Nov. 1-14, and they will receive $1 for every pound donated.

All candy will then be sent directly to active duty troops from Philadelphia and South Jersey.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, most Americans consume over 24 pounds of candy a year, a majority of which is during the Halloween season.

"We have found that there is an increase in dental-related problems in children and adults following Halloween. Dentists used to think that just consuming sugar caused tooth decay. We now know that decay is linked to the amount of time sugar stays on the surface of the tooth," said Paster.

Paster purchased his dental practice from Dr. Bruce Burns in early 2013, and is working to continue to the practice’s 40-year legacy of active community partnership, including programs like Operation Buyback.

Dr. Paster purchased his practice from Dr. Bruce L. Burns, D.D.S. at the beginning of 2013. Now, as both an area business owner and resident, Dr. Paster is working to continue the practice's 40-year legacy of active community partnership. Programs like Operation Buyback are helping him and his staff to educate families on the importance of comprehensive dental care in both a fun and charitable way.
