BREAKING DOWN A 16 YEAR OLD WALL... an milestone update.

Another amazing milestone from one of our Members at Corefit in the Lose to Win Program!!! In his own words.....

What do you say we jump in the Delorean and go back to 1998.  I was in 8th grade at Indian Crest Middle School.  Dominating middle school football and about to enter the years of high school just below 300 lbs.  This is the last time I jumped on the scale and saw the first digit starting with a "2".  I never really thought much of it since I was a "bigger guy" and a football player.  I took my size both height and weight and used it to my advantage.  Little did I know that this was only the start to where I would be 16 year later.

May 2013 was D day.  The day that I stepped on the scale and it read 455 lbs was the day I knew this could no longer continue.  That day was my 29th birthday, May 21, 2013.  I knew I had to make a change.  If I didn't I would die before reaching my 30's.  Years before  this day I went to meetings with doctors about weight loss surgery but backed out.   I tried many different diets over the 16 years and failed.   I failed because there was always something missing.  I would make it 2-6 months and then slowly go back to my "comfort zone" of emotional eating.  So after cutting back on the fast food and trips to Wawa I lost my first 20 lbs and I looked for a program that would work for me.

I have always said if I had my own trainer to yell and scream in my face on a daily basis, a personal nutritionist and chef I could lose weight like anyone out there.  Well since my NFL career never took off I had to find a more realistic option.  After talking to my sister late one Saturdaynight she brought up a guy named Carl.  She knew Carl from taking his spin classes and she knew that he had started training a weight loss group at an area gym.  That gym is called Corefit.  So I told my sister to give Carl my number because he wanted to talk to me.

I'll never forget talking to Carl for the first time on the phone.  I remember expressing to him that I personally needed one on one attention at all of my workouts.  He came back basically saying I really want you to come check out our program.  Any excuse I could think of just couldn't come out of my mouth.  I agreed to come in and "check it out".  A few days later I walked into CoreFit to take a class with the Lose to Win program.  I actually had to bring my sister with me the first class because I was to chicken to walk in by myself.  I literately had to sit down because I got dizzy during my first class.  Throughout the workout I was able to meet more trainers Joymarie and the owner of the gym Liz.  Both were overly supportive and motivating along with Carl.  As hard as the workout was I looked around the room and saw people that were for once in my shoes.  Teammates that had to lose weight just like me.  Teammates that have gone through their struggles just like me.  Teammates that wanted me to succeed as much as I did myself.

After finally taking this class I joined the Lose to Win group in July of 2013.  Today is March 11, 2014.  This morning I stepped on the scale and it read 299.2 lbs.  I couldn't believe my eyes.  I got on and off the scale 3 times and then took a picture of the scale so I knew I wasn't dreaming.  I had finally done it.  I broke down the 16 year old wall in just 8 months.  This shows that with hard work and the correct program anything can be accomplished.  Carl, Liz and Joymarie all gave me the workouts that my body needed.  Beth and Steph gave me the yoga that my body needed to stretch and heal.  Joymarie gave me the tools with nutrition to head in a straight line to shore.  And lastly, Corefit gave me a second family.  A family full people dedicated to the same goals.  Without the support of so many I would have failed.  It's the accountability of walking into CoreFit and not wanting to let anyone down.  The support, the smiles, the laughs and the workouts are second to none.  I feel like I have to buy the studio a new floor.  In reality there was a massacre of 137 lbs of blood, sweat and tears (shhhh) all over the floor.

So, thank you to all that have been a part of my journey.  Please raise your water bottles up and cheers to the next and final goal of weighing 225 lbs by my 31st birthday.
