The traffic signals at Township Line Road and Ridge Pike were disabled early Saturday by a traffic accident that heavily damaged the control box for the intersection, Upper Providence Police confirmed Saturday afternoon.
"It took out the entire intersection," Upper Providence Officer Jeffrey Hilt said.
The accident was believed to have occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m.
Hilt said that technicians from Armour & Sons were awaiting the arrival of a new control box. He estimated that the traffic signals would be restored between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
Earlier Saturday, workers could be seen attempting to repair the original control box. It appeared to have been dislodged from its base by the force of an impact.
Temporary stop signs were in place at the intersection, which Hilt said had been reduced to one lane in each direction.
Hilt said details on the accident that damaged the control box were unlikely to be available before Monday morning.
