Power outage in Royersford

PECO estimates power may not be restored until 8:00am Friday. The cause is not yet known.

Update 5:45am: Spokesperson Karen Muldoon Geus told Patch that about 2000 customers spread throughout the service territory are still without power.

Last night, the high storm volume led to about 3500 customers throughout the service territory to be left without power starting around 11:30 p.m.

Muldoon Gues said that the current 2000 customers without power should have their service restored by noon. Limerick Patch will have the update.

Update 1:11am: We're receiving reports that power has been restored to at least some neighborhoods.

Update 12:34am: PECO now reports that 2,320 customers are affected by the outage and that the estimated time for restoration of power is now 8:00am. The cause is still unknown at this time.

Electrical power is out in a large portion of Royersford Borough at this hour, PECO has confirmed. Power reportedly was lost around 11:35pm.

The utility estimates that power will be restored by 2:00am Friday. The cause of the outage is not yet known.

Patch contributor Molly Lozinak reported that most of the borough's traffic lights are currently inactive, and that the gates of the railroad grade crossing have been lowered.

Traffic is reportedly backing up on Main Street, while some drivers are circumventing the gates to drive across the tracks. 

The area around 4th Avenue & Main Street reportedly has power, and a reader reported that the Abbey Downs neighborhood off Lewis Road also has power. A map of locations in the borough where loss of power has been reported can be found to the right of this article.

A PECO employee seen near the intersection of 2nd Ave at Arch St. appeared to be working on a transformer at about 12:20am. He declined to be identified and said he did not know the cause of the outage or when power would be restored.

Visitors to the Facebook page for Limerick-Royersford-Spring City Patch reported power out in several neighborhoods. One reader reported that power was out at her home in Spring City.
