Palarmo's Plans Food Drive

      When Palermo’s Pizza, 70 Buckwalter
Road, Royersford, heard the plight of Open Door Ministry’s Food Pantry, they
did not hesitate to agree to a collaboration that will help restock their
shelves.  On October 14th

through the 20th when anyone brings a canned or non-perishable item

to Palermo’s Pizza, they will receive 10% off their meal.

“This is the time of year when food pantries need food the most,” explained Pantry Manager, Terry Robin.  “Open Door is no exception.  While our shelves of food grow empty, the lines of people in need grow longer.”

The quickest way to help individual pantries like Open Door is to provide direct help to the pantries.  Money is also helpful, as it enables pantries to purchase more food from places like Philabundance and local discount grocery stores.

Open Door is particularly vulnerable because while they try to help all who are in need, the money they receive from the government to purchase food is for Montgomery County residents only.  It is not allowed to be used for their closeneighbors in Chester County.  Open Door provides love boxes to many of the residents from Spring-Ford who live outside Montgomery County, but only on a limited one time basis.  These boxes are prepared using donations from the community.

“We need donations of food from the community,” added Robin.  “Everything is used to provide relief to food insecure families in the Spring-Ford area.”
