What we consume before and after our workout can help us gain the results we want. There are hundreds of pre and post workout drinks and bars on the market, most are filled with caffeine or some form of stimulant. As well as being expensive, they can have a negative effect on our systems. I feel you should get as many nutrients as possible from whole foods and results from hard work.
One of the best pre workout drinks is good old low fat chocolate milk. It has all the things the body needs for a good start and also after a vigorous work out the body craves sugar, but it still needs protein. If you opt for a protein shake look for a protein without all of the extra supplements added. Our body can only process and absorb approximately 20 grams of protein at one time regardless of what your daily needs are. The body is full of receptors for everything from testosterone to pain; they can only receive so much before they shut down.
The only way to tell if you are deficient in vitamins, etc., is through a blood test, so check with your doctor before you spend your money on a really cool named supplement. It might be better spent on a good pair of sneakers, a home cooked meal, a personal trainer, or gym membership. Our body is the only machine that the harder you work it, the better it runs, so keep moving. Any questions, please contact High Voltage Gym.
