OBIT: St. Joseph's RCC Parishioner Joseph J. Swider, Sr.

Swider lived in Linfield with his wife, Judith.

The following information was provided by the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home:

Joseph J. Swider, Sr., age 73, husband of Judith A. (Scanlon) Swider, of Linfield, PA, formerly of Jeffersonville and Roxborough, PA, died Thursday morning, December 5th, 2013 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA .  

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Michael S. and Mary (Rippert) Swider.  Mr. Swider was a 1958 graduate of the Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia.  He worked for many years for the Philadelphia Fire Department, retiring in 1990.  After his retirement, he worked as a driver for Quest Diagnostics in Horsham, PA.

He was also a member of the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Spring City.  He enjoyed golfing in several leagues and the time he could spend with his entire family. 

In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mr. Swider is survived by three children: Stephen J., husband of Karen A. (Russial) Swider, of King of Prussia; Barbara J. Swider, of Exton, PA; Gregory J., husband of Elizabeth V. (Gouveia) Swider, of TN; two brothers: Michael, husband of Jacqueline Swider, of Philadelphia; Eugene, husband of Carol Swider, of Lafayette Hill, PA; four grandchildren: Brendan, Ali, Hunter, Nikki; one great grandson: Austin.  Mr. Swider was pre-deceased by one son: Joseph J. Swider, Jr., husband of Susan M. (Melnick) Swider, of Downingtown.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass at the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 3640 Schuylkill Road, Spring City, PA 19475 on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 11:00 am.  Officiating will be the Rev. Charles R. O'Hara.  Entombment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.  Friends will be received from 9:30 - 10:45 am Wednesday morning at the Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, P.O.
