Not a goodbye

Editor David Powell is handing over the reins today. But before he does, he's got a few words.

This will probably be my final article as editor of the Limerick-Royersford-Spring City Patch.

I've known this day was coming for more than two months, but it still managed to sneak up on me, and I'm still not quite sure what to say about it.

I'm not saying "goodbye," because I'm not going anywhere. First of all, I'm remaining with Patch. I'm moving on to become an associate editor for our Montgomery County region, where I'll help support seven other Patch sites (with more on the way). And, yes, I'll still be doing some reporting and other writing. You'll still see my name on articles from time to time.

Second, I continue to live in Limerick with my wife and daughters, so I'll still be a part of the Spring-Ford area.

It hasn't even been six months since we launched this site, and in that time it has evolved from an Internet curiosity ("Patch? What's that?") to a genuine community resource.

My successor, Kevin Haslam, is a bright young reporter who I'm confident will do the job as well or better than I did. He'll be introducing himself later on Friday. Please give him a warm welcome. He's going to be working very hard to get to know everyone.

It has been my honor and privilege to be the founding editor of the Limerick-Royersford-Spring City Patch. The name is a bit clunky—I envy Teresa McMinn, editor of the alliterative Pottstown Patch—but the experience has been anything but. Thank you for reading.
