Alleged counterfeiters arrested

Two Liberian nationals were being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after allegedly trying to pass bogus $50 bills at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets.

Two men were arrested Monday evening at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets after passing counterfeit $50 bills to a number of merchants at the facility, Limerick Township Police said late Wednesday.

Pyne Suah, 29, and Samuel Suah, 32, both Liberian nationals last known to reside in Upper Darby, were charged with multiple counts of theft, forgery, possession of instruments of crime and criminal conspiracy, police said.

Police were notified by staff at the Diesel store after the men allegedly presented a cashier with a counterfeit $50 bills to pay for purchases from the store. Employees followed the men to their vehicle, which they identified to police as a 2000 Audi A6.

According to police, officers stopped the vehicle and during their investigation recovered 25 counterfeit $50 bills and 18 receipts for small purchases from other merchants at the facility.  The men allegedly received legitimate currency as change for their fraudulent bills.

The suspects have not cooperated with the investigation, police said.

According to police, Pyne Suah has prior arrests in Minnesota for theft and assault by strangulation. Samuel Suah has prior arrests for theft and forgery, police said.

It was not immediately clear whether the suspects are related.

Both men were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Walter Gadzicki and taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $7,500 bail.
