Police Searching for Royersford Bank Robber [UPDATE]

An unarmed white male in his 20's robbed the National Penn Bank on Wednesday afternoon, according to Royersford Police.

Update at 6:57 p.m.:

Area police are currently searching for a man who robbed the National Penn Bank located at 793 block of Main Street in Royersford, according to Royersford Borough Police.

A white male in his 20's came into the bank and presented a note to the teller demanding money, according to Acting Royersford Police Chief Thomas Nerlinger.

There was no weapon displayed or implied, according to Nerlinger, and the man fled onto Main Street in an unknown direction with an undetermined amount of U.S. Currency.

The Pottstown K-9 Unit, along with police from Upper Providence and Spring City, assisted in the search that prevented local schools from letting out at regular time.

Brooke Elementary, the 5-6 Grade Center and Royersford Elementary kept students until 4:15 p.m. at the request of Royersford Police, according to the Spring-Ford Area School District.

According to employees at the bank, there were no customers or employees were injured during the robbery.

This is the second time in the past two years that bank was robbed; on Feb. 16, 2012, Justin Ryan McKain, 36, allegedly robbed the bank; he was apprehended in Spotsylvania, Va. roughly one week later.

The branch was also in the news in December 2012, when a car struck the building to the right of the main entrance.
