Black Rock Fire Co. Adds New Ladder Truck

The new truck, dubbed Tower 99, adds some needed versatility to Black Rock's fleet.

Black Rock Fire Co. has added a 2012 Pierce truck to its apparatus lineup, according to an article in the Phoenix.

The new truck has a one-hundred-foot-long ladder, five feet longer than the copany's previous ladder truck.

Black Rock Assistant Chief Jim Callahan told the Phoenix that new buildings in the area, such as the Hilton Garden Inn at the Oaks exit of Route 422 and the Providence Town Center shopping center located on Route 29, necessitated a longer ladder.

One benefit to the newer ladder is that a five-foot ladder can be attached to the tower's bucket, which, according to Callahan, is helpful with buildings that have tall facades like the ones at Providence Town Center.

The truck cost $980,000, which was paid from a variety of sources including the company's relief association funds, Upper Providence Township, grant money and funds raised by the company.
