Chief: "Unusual" Amount of Sexual Assaults

Limerick Township Police Chief Bill Albany reports a high amount of sexual assaults reported to the department over the past month.

There have been seven different sexual assault cases over the course of the past month according to Chief Bill Albany.

Albany reported that each case is unrelated to the rest and that they all involve a child being sexually assaulted by a family member or close friend to the family. In most cases, Albany said, an older juvenile assaults a younger juvenile.

"This is unusual for the township," Albany said. "We usually average two of these cases a month."

Suspects in each of the cases are known, Albany reported. Albany cautioned the public about leaving children alone with certain people.

"Unfortunately in these particular cases, they were with an individual who the parents trusted," he said. "Any time you have a minor, have them play in a setting under the watchful eye of responsible and trusted adult supervision."
