A female pedestrian was killed Monday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle on N. Lewis Road in Limerick.

Police Chief William Albany said a green Ford Focus traveling northbound on N. Lewis Road had crossed into the southbound lane "for unknown reasons" and struck a woman wearing jogging clothes before striking a utility pole and sustaining heavy front end damage.

The woman, , was not carrying identification at the time of the crash, Albany said. Police later said that they were able to tentatively identify Thompson from information on her cell phone so that they could notify her family.

The 18-year-old male driver of the Focus sustained what Albany called minor injuries and was transported to Phoenixville Hospital for treatment.

The male driver, who has not yet been identified, refused to give a statement or consent to a search of his cell phone at the scene, police said. Late Tuesday morning, however, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman said authorities had obtained possession of the phone and taken blood samples from the driver.

N. Lewis Road was closed between Country Club Road and Benner Road while police and county detectives performed a reconstruction of the crash, which was reported at about 2:46 p.m. The road was reopened to traffic at about 6:30 p.m.
